Happy New Year to everyone. Have a great, fortune filled New Year !

Every New Year almost everyone makes a resolution. Whether he or she sticks to it or not, is a different thing. But most resolutions are broken in just a few days or months. Since we’re getting to that time of year when everyone starts to think about the New Year and reflect upon the changes they would like to make in their lives, I’ll confess to you my New Year’s resolution.

  • New site !

This is my first resolution, which is to be completed on the 1st day of the new year. I think I’m done with it by opening up this site sandeephegde.me on 1st January 2010. This personal site is a collection of my life stream, blog posts, photo’s and more…. Checkout this cool video which says all about it :

Browse around to see my stuff and do not forget to subscribe to my feeds.

  • Blog Regularly

I’m 100% confident of achieving this at least. I have been blogging regularly on PingSense.com since a year, and blogging has almost become my passion. But still it takes some time to write genuine content (its really easy to copy paste ! )  As of now I plan to make at least one post every week may it be personal, technology, or anything comes to my mind. I’m just going unleash my thoughts. Be updated by subscribing to my feeds.

  • Get out of computer addiction

I spent WAY too much time in front of my computer — an unhealthy amount of time actually. So this year I’m resolving to break the psychological shackles of 24-7 access to technology…  Anyone else facing a similar conundrum? Any words of advice? Leave ‘em in the comments please – I need help!

  • Differentiate work and personal life

My family and friends complain about it all the time. I have been spending holidays for work, instead of going home. I think I have realized I need to go home some times at least !  This may not be possible immediately since I have to manage study and work load simultaneously. With the due course of time(may be second half of this year) I aim to reclaim my (non screen – non business) life.

  • Health Care

This is the most neglected thing in my life. Yet I rarely fall ill. I really don’t know the secret my health. I don’t wont to take risk by letting it just like that, especially after extracting one of my tooth few months ago. (It was supposed to be extracted from past 3 years, I neglected since it was not giving any pain) Here after I’m going to get up early morning and go for an walk. Will try to eat only healthy foods( Its really hard !) I think this should be more than enough to start with :)

  • Better Time & Task Management

Sometime I do feel that 24 hours a day is very less. Life has been almost hectic all the time. Imagine I have built this site while my semester exams are going on ! I have been good at both time and task management , but still there is lot more to improvise. I’m already using sticky paper notes, reminders on mobile etc. I’m going to split up all my activities, assigning some time and some priority to each. I’m also trying out find better ways, like to do lists, mind map tools, use of project management tool etc. Please provide your suggestions through comments.

I think these resolutions( if implemented !) will make a lot of changes in my life. Now am curious if you have any healthy resolutions for 2010, so speak up and share them in the comments section below. No resolution is too big or too small to share. I want to hear them all.

dotCORD featured on AllAboutBelgaum.com

// August 2nd, 2009 // Comments // My Activities, My Works

Continuing with the last article on Indian Express , now its turn of AllAboutBelgaum to write about dotCORD. Here is the exact copy of content from All About Belgaum

Source Link : http://allaboutbelgaum.com/it/students-cum-entrepreneurs-under-graduates-running-a-it-company-successfully-dotcord-it-solutions/

7th semester student duo of Sandeep Hegde and Manoj Nair both away from their home town who came here to pursue their engineering have landed themselves in a position they would not have expected. The duo started the dotCORD IT Solutions private limited an IT company while still studying.

While they are taught new technologies at dotCORD the duo have seen that they know all the latest technologies in web designing and other allied works. At this time of global recession when students who get a campus placement will be the happiest of the lot, these two have proven that why wait for other companies to hire you, we can hire a few and they have done just that.

dotCORD is a company founded by a group of students of Gogte Institute of Technology(GIT), Belgaum with a professional tint to their pursue of knowledge. They pioneer in providing superior and world standard web based solutions for small to large corporate companies; offshore and local. They seize each new opportunity and leverage it to the enhancement of overall development procedures. They fully appreciate the fact that in a highly competitive biz world a well designed web site can act as a strong and effective marketing tool for your company. Working closely with your ideas and necessities coupled with technical expertise can turn a simple web design from a mere presentation to powerful business equipment.

Their vision is based on the Internet wave. The ability to transmit information at a ZERO cost opens up possibilities that never existed before. Individuals and Entities worldwide must adopt and adapt to a new way of doing business, learn new lessons, evolve their processes and leverage on the advantages and opportunities presented by a connected globe, in order to increase efficiency, remain competitive, and enhance quality of life.

It is their goal to build unique software, applications and services that leverage the internet and assist individuals and entities to communicate, collaborate and stay in touch.

The duo has now taken the responsibility of designing the IT Belgaum site which is a part of this blog’s initiative for collective IT growth in Belgaum.

They have a full plan for the future laid down. In the coming month a new website for Belgaumites will be launched known as Belgaumpages where each one and anyone could get in touch with his friends, blog, share etc. They don’t stop here; they have future plans ready which would be sites on a global scale and web marketing as well.

Some excerpts of the interview with Sandeep Hegde, MD dotCORD IT Solutions private limited-

How and when did u get the idea of starting the company?
Manoj and me got together to work on a project during the 2nd year of our engineering (2007 July). It was for a competition hosted by IBM. Getting into project, we soon discovered that we had to use only IBM products to develop the software. We understood that it was more of business intent from “Big Blue” and dropped out of the project. Then we started to build a website for a domain name I had registered in order to tryout some stuff online. Meanwhile we worked for IEEE GIT website design competition. Manas being the next roll number to Manoj assisted us in graphic design work. Everyone appreciated our design and the level of professionalism we showed in developing it. This made us think, why we don’t start our own company! And we never looked back again

Why this name dotCORD?

Once we decided to start a company next question was off course the company name. We wanted something unique, suitable for IT field, brand able in long run and a .com domain name availability for registration. We were trying to get a name for around two months. None of our friends also could suggest a good name which has unregistered domain name. Finally I and Manoj were trying to find a company name with dot and dotCORD was the outcome. We registered the domain name on 14th December 2007. On 11th February 2009 we were incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 (No. 1 of 1956), Government of India as dotCORD IT SOLUTIONS PRIVATE LIMITED with the help of our C.A., Mr.Shivangi.
dot – Symbolizes internet, technology, global
cord – Binding dot

Your parents reaction on starting company -
Sandeep – My parents have been very supportive always. Once we handled few projects and were firm with establishment of company I told my parents about the stuff in detail.  Although they do not know the technical aspects, they have been supportive in company matter also as usual. Dad has been giving me suggestions and tells me do’s and don’ts etc. This kind of support from parents has always been helping me to focus on my goals and achieve it
Manoj- My parents had doubts about me getting into such a job during my education. But ever since we got the company registered, they have been extremely supportive and constantly keep asking about any developments that take place. They also give me tips on what to do in certain situations as and when I encounter them. Surprisingly, even my mom likes this idea very much (thanks to the astrologers she consulted).

The fact that we have not demanded anything extra in monetary terms from our parents even during the registration process, gives us more self-confidence and a sense of independence

How was the response from the college and staff?

College and staff have been supporting us right from the initial stages. We have got a very friendly and supportive environment in GIT. We could approach any staff and they are always there to guide us. Prof. Santosh Saraf who was the judge for the first website we did (IEE GIT) is with us till date as our mentor. Being the coordinator of IT Incubation Center of the College he suggested starting our office there. Our Pricipal Dr.D.H.Rao and Management have been very supporting in setting up our office. We have got many projects through the reference of staff, students and alumni of our college.

You are in the 7th sem now how do u manage work and studies?

Well engineering is not that difficult. I’m a bit allergic to books and clear the 3 hours exam with 3 hours study while Manoj does have an aggregate of 70% +. We have been instructed by college to work at office only after college hours. We attend college regularly with others and work for the company in our free time which would have gone waste otherwise.

Who were the co founders with you?
Manoj and I are the co-founders of dotCORD. Then Manas joined us followed by Chinmay. We do have many internees who work part time for the company.

Some good/bad experience while on work

Everything was a new experience to us. Being technical students we jumped into something that requires management. However good we are at work, we need to convince people that we can do it. Initially we did not have a portfolio and also the fact that we are still students made many doubt if we could deliver in time and up to their expectations. Yet, some people trusted us with the job. We would like to thank all our clients for this trust they share in doing business with us.

According to me, we have not undergone anything such as a bad experience. Due to our limited exposure to outer world we did face some hurdles. We had to face problems with the market survey for product pricings. We faced problems with collection of payment as well. Some companies outsourced their work to us but cancelled the project without any payment. We faced problems in setting up our bank account as well. Thanks to the support provided by Axis Bank, our problems with a bank account ended there. We are lucky enough that someone or the other helped us when we were facing problems.

What are your future plans?

Till now we have followed a path that revealed itself to us, and which brought us here. But we now know that we require to lay our own paths in order to move forward and make DOTCORD a true success story. We are in the process of developing a comprehensive plan for our growth, especially extending our client base to more locations within the country as well as abroad; with Belgaum remaining the center of our operations. At this point in time, we cannot afford to think of a situation where we may have to disintegrate after our engineering course. We will give it all we’ve got in keeping abreast with the market demands and satisfying our customers.

Best thing you like about Belgaum?

The best thing I like about Belgaum is its collaborative nature. The people of Belgaum are very friendly and supportive. It is a cool and calm city. The quality of education is very high here. It does not have pollution and traffic problems like larger cities but we do have all the facilities which are available in any metropolitan city. Our company has a lot of scope parallel to the growth of Belgaum.

What are your thoughts on the initiative taken by AllAboutBelgaum for the IT development?

We were already aware of the earlier version of AllAboutBelgaum, that is, Belgaumblog. My instinct said me that this blog is going to grow one day which is quite evident with the transformation into AllAboutBelgaum and the number of Facebook fans. We know that team of AAB is quite capable of living up to any initiative. The recent initiative of bringing together IT companies in Belgaum is another such example. We extend our complete support to AllAboutBelgaum for all future undertakings. All the best to the team of AAB!!!

Indian Express writes about dotCORD

// July 29th, 2009 // Comments // My Activities, My Works

I and my company dotCORD were  featured on Indian Express Newspaper recently(25-07-2009).

FlashBack :  It was around 11Am on 22 July 2009. I was sleeping on my bed ( I usually sleep from 4am to 12pm or so since its holiday time !). I got an call from my college(GIT,Belgaum) placement officer Prof.D.G.Kulkarni. I picked up the call in sleepy mood. D.G.K. sir told me some news reporter has come for our interview and asked me to come to Principals cabin immediately. I was suprised to hear it ! I just took bath and got ready in hurry burry and ran to pricipals cabin (Took half an hour). Our Principal Dr.D.H.Rao was all alone in cabin when I entered and he told me that they are waiting for me at Placement cell and I moved on there.

The reported introduced himself as Tushar Majukar from Indian Express. He said that a editor from Bangalore had called him up saying there is a company in GIT. He was in dilama how can there be a software company in college and had come to get more information.  He just started asking about us and company. Since my partner Manoj was out of station I alone had to explain him everything. He told we will move on to our dotCORD office meanwhile.

We continued to keep talking on the way to dotCORD office which is located at IT Incubation Center, Librar Block, GIT. Our internee Maneesh was working in office while we entered and I introduced him to Tushar. Then Tushar asked me to show some of our work and I opened up the computer and showed some sites we had done. Our work reminded him of his old days(1990′s) when he was trying to dowebsites in HTML. He also told me about his friends who are in IT field. He collected information about how we started off, what we do, how we get clients, how we work, how we do business etc. He went on asking questions to me and I went on answers those questions.

We moved back to Placement office. I called up our mentor and IT Incubation Center co-ordinator Prof Santosh Saraf. He asked him about the activities of IT Incubation Center etc. He got an overview of support being provided to us from our college. Then those both moved on to Principals cabin to get his statement while I waited for them outside. I had no guess that our Pricipal comment big like in the article below. After coming out Tushar told me to mail me my and Manoj’s photos to his email id which he had given earlier. He told he will publish the article the next day and he left.

I checked the Indian express the next day but it had not come. Gangubhai had expired that day and I assumed to due to which all other news articles and not publised to make space for the Gangibhai’s news. I did not go to ask Tushar again on the topic. Then I had just left the topic and one day(saturday, 25-07-2009) my senior Meenakshi send me an SMS saying congratulations for your new company. Through her I got to know the article was published in Indian Express. But I was Bangalore and it was published in Belgaum Edition. I had to wait till I go back to read the article. Finally I read the article on Monday i.e after to days. I had got many calls from people who read Indian Express and I spoke to them without knowing what exactly was written in newspaper. Actually even I called up and thanked Tushar before I read the article myself !

Change has come to PingSense

// July 18th, 2009 // Comments // My Activities, My Works

Hello everyone,

Its has been quite a month , no posts on PingSense. I was pretty busy writing exams and had no time to write for pingsense. Also my Godaddy shared hosting server was expiring and had to move around 25+ sites to my brand new Virtual Private Server(VPS).  I’m back again with a Bang !

While reading this post you might have noticed some new stuuf on PingSense. Yes ! Change has come to PingSense.

* Virtual Private Server

PingSense is now on Godaddy – Virtual Private Server(VPS).  A VPS is like an semi dedicated server.  A server is divided into many parts and simultaneously many virtual servers are created using virtualization softwares like Zen and OpenVZ. Now I have a server with 256MB RAM which is burstable upto 1GB, with 10GB Disk Space and 500GB monthly Bandwidth. Thats more than enough for a small site like mine. This will provide me more control over the server. I can literally do whatever I want with my server.  Other features include better performance of site, more flexibility, secure etc The only drawback is managing the server and I hope I can do it properly :)

*  New Look !

The old template of PingSens ewas very flashy. Thats was good for an entertainment site not for my blog. I was searching for an simple template and ended up with The Morning After theme for WordPress created by Arun Kale. The features include Clean grid-based design, Support for WordPress widgets, Three-column home page,  “Featured” post highlighting, Support for WordPress’s in-built image wrapping classes and galleries, Threaded comments, Support for asides, Support for Gravatars, Option for readers to email posts to friends, Option to switch to a print-friendly view to print posts and many more… I hope you too liked the it !

* Asides

An aside is basically a very short post, more like a note. It could be an interesting link that you want to share with your readers, or just a quick opinion about something. This was an very essential thing for me since sometimes its hard for me to find time to write long posts. I could just share some things which I may like in the web world and can’t keep explaining about it. I’m pretty sure you will like it !

* Twitter

Yes ! Finally PingSense is on twitter.  Twitter is a service to communicate and stay connected with exchange of quick frequent short messages. It has revolutionized the defination of Social Networking. Hereafter all the posts being on PingSense will be automatically twitted with TwitterFeed. Please follow us on http://www.twitter.com/sandeephegde

* Community Toolbar

I have added a new community toolbar which can be found at the bottom of the page. This toolbar is powered by Wibiya.  The toolbar will help the PingSense community to be engaged. It has a quick search option making it easy to find things around. Latest notifications can be read immediately.The content can also be translated into various languages easily.  You could find the recent/random posts at one click. You can post into facebook or twitter using the toolbar. You could also read the rss feeds and play games if you are bored!

I hope this will make my readers ( you ! ) happy. I will try to keep adding more features in the coming days.

Don’t  forget to Subscribe to my RSS Feeds :)

Belgaum techies come aboard and meet

// May 23rd, 2009 // Comments // My Activities

Belgaum Techies working in the IT and ITeS fields have concurred the same thought as of this blog and in response to Collective effort to develop IT & ITeS in Belgaum, they had their first meeting on Saturday 23rd May at Ajanta Café which went on in a informal but very assertive manner.

dotCORD IT Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

dotCORD IT Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

Belgaum IT Meet

Belgaum IT Group

A formal round of introduction happened and all shared the idea of collaborating. They all thanked AllAboutBelgaum for talking this initiative and getting the It & ITeS related people closer in a group. Each one expressed their own problems and success stories and agreed to collaborate with each other. An e-Group has already been created for this and in some time a website will also be primed with all the details of the companies, Jobs etc.

Casual Discussions @ Belgaum IT Meet

Me(Left) , Vishal Kulkarni(middle), R.K.Pakil (Right)

A need was felt by all that as a group they should approach colleges and companies and promote themselves as well as Belgaum as a Brand. Reaching out to the clientele is the biggest challenge many said and this kind of a platform will enable and aid all of them to achieve their goals. As all are startups a need was felt to share the ideas and also share professional knowledge with each other on various topics which
will include taxation, company formation and govt legalities.

Belgaum IT meet

Networking @ Belgaum IT Meet

This is just a beginning and monthly meets will follow and the base of companies will also be added to the group so that all the It & ITeS companies based in Belgaum will come under a single banner for the benefit of Belgaum.

After an Month

// March 16th, 2009 // Comments // Cool Sites, My Activities

So friends PingSense.com has successfully completed an month on internet. So just thought of looking a way back.

It was my first attempt of serious Blogging and the most important thing I’m still serious about it!

Although I started with a general post, it moved to movies and departmental stuff. The post related to wordpress workshop had good keywords and got some traffic from Google. My post on Billu Barber got a traffic to the site . This made me to make a post on Delhi 6 too which still stands to to be highest viewed page on the site (2000+ counting on…)

Next comes the series of Lab Programs. I don’t know in which mood I posted the File Structure Lab programs for 6th Semester Information Science. File Structure Lab programs got listed first in Google & other search engines and hence I got a huge response from my fellow engineers. Thanks to our madam! People started mailing me for remaining programs and it went to extend that they even ask for programs in guest book ! The post remains the top discussed post on the site and made me to post lex and yaac programs and other academic stuff too. File Structure programs are too difficult and I may have to post once I get the remaining programs.

Next coming to the design of the site. The colour changed from orange to blue to external world. Internally I change the Personal Magazine theme to new design. Personal magazine had a simply look and lacked functionality. I could not even add widgets in it!

The new layout has two level of menus – one for custom pages and another for post categories. The top slider and feature post helps me to show attractive posts to the readers. Only a small portion of post gets listed up giving an option for more posts on homepage and giving the option to the reader goto the post of his choice. The site has become more user friendly what do you say?

Coming to the interaction with the user , I have added the Email subscription option powered by Google feedburner. This is allowing the readers to get the latest post right in their mailbox. Feedburner has got a good response with a lot of people subscribing daily. I have also added an code to display the feedburner statistics and the site statistics i.e the number of people reading the feeds and the number of people visiting and viewing the site. The comes the tabbed menu which has 3-d tag cloud and the articles which are most discussed and most popular.

Recently I have also added widgets from “Pluck”. The widget scans the content on my site and embeds the related articles from other site on the internet. The content is displayed withing my site and hence making the readers happy.

I have tried to optimize the site with ads but it is not generating any revenue. People now a days does not seem to click on ads. If the site does not generate any revenue through ads it may be difficult to pay my hosting charges next year. The site is getting a lot of visits and is consuming a lot of resources of my shared web hosting account. Keep praying that the service provider to be kind enough not to ban me for over usage of CPU and Memory usage.

Now comes the search engine optimization part. Being in the web industry for more than 3 years search engine optimization ( SEO ) was like an child’s play to me. The site started getting listed on the top of the search engines like google, yahoo, msn etc. Although the visits initially cam through search engines 25% were loyal enough to come back directly and i thank them all for their support. My search engine efforts were only for a week but still giving good results. The site has got a lot of back-links through many social bookmarking sites.

The site has got an seo score of 93% from “DomainTools.com”

Meanwhile site has reached an alexa ranking of 1,696,145 Globally, 125,973 for India and 913,344 for United States. I believe it is an achievement to reach such an ranking within one month time duration.

The site is valued to be worth $1372.4 till date by “WebsiteOutlook.com” and I’m embedding the real time valuation :

My site is worth $1372.4.
How much is yours worth?

But its still a long way to go to get approved by direct ad agencies like “buy sell ads”.

In meanwhile it is making me to think the site is more of programs and academic stuff. So I’m making my mind to keep the academic stuff in limit and post on my areas of expertise. This post is a preface to the coming changes….

I welcome the suggestion and feedbacks .

WordPress Workshop :: Part 2

// February 28th, 2009 // Comments // Cool Sites, Engineering, My Activities, My Works, Software, Tech, Tools, Web

Here is an continuation of my last post WordPress Workshop -Part 1

Blogging with WordPress

WordPress Workshop

I think I had written a lot in my last post on the day 1 of wordpress workshop. After self analysis of our performance with first batch me and Snehal decided to have some changes for the second batch. I had explained a lot of extras for the first batch and had to cut it down for the second batch. Also we decided that Snehal and Sanket will handle some portions. And to take some snaps of the workshop which we had missed out yesterday :)

We were in time at browsing center. We started uninstalling the wamserver installed by the previous batch candidates. Gudi sir set up the projector for us and he was going to be the photographer for us !  Sohel was missing since he went to attend the hacking Contest at K.L.E. Engineering College, Belgaum. Although we expected a lot of people today, there was no crowd outside. Everyone came one by one in time.

K.K.T.  sir started with the introduction and later he went out since he had some work. The first part i.e introduction to websites, blogs, wordpress, hosting, domains etc was done by Snehal. She explained it slowly point by point, asking questions to participants to make the session interactive ( I had finished it just in 5 min yesterday!).  As we had decided to tell the hosting & domain setup at end , I started with WampServer Installation. Unlike yesterday I did not make use of ppt for this. Everything was live ! The installation step seemed to be very easy to everyone( WordPress rocks !). Then Sanket took over to explain how to post on wordpress and how to create categories etc. I came back to explain wordpress themes, plugins and widgets.

The participants were more active compared to yesterdays batch. They were trying to create themes with wordpress theme generator and use it while i was explaining itself. Many had created beautiful designs in no time ! Same was the case with plugins. they googled and got new plugins. But Plugins seemed to be complicated for them due to the diversity in nature of usage from one plugin to plugin. They had a lot of questions to ask unlike yesterdays batch. Since it was afternoon time they seemed to be hungry and wanted to out fast !

I explained only basic stuff cutting a lot of information. Since Snehal and Sanket explain some portions my work was reduced. It was almost 3.30pm and decided to conclude. K.K.T had finished his work and had returned to workshop to conclude it ! Thus making the end of the movie WordPress Worksop – Part 2

We have plan about WordPress Workshop – Part 3 on Monday… Keep awaiting for my next post…

WordPress Workshop :: Part 1

// February 27th, 2009 // Comments // Cool Sites, Engineering, My Activities, Tech, Tools, Web

Hello Everyone,

Today was one of the most wonderful day in my life. As I has posted earlier the Workshop on ” Blogging with WordPress” started today. This was the first workshop I have ever conducted. there was an huge response from the students of I.S.E., GIT we had to decide to organize workshop in batches. So we had divided the registrants into two batches. One batch for those who submitted the assignment work given by us and another batch for those who are lazy to complete the assignment but still wanted to learn wordpress !

The schedule was announced in class and displayed on notice board.

Batch A: Late submissions (First come First Serve Basis)
Day: Friday
Date: 27th Feb 2009
Time: 2.00pm – 5.00pm
Venue: Browsing Center, GIT.

Batch B: For students who have submitted the website designs on or before 25th Feb, 2009
Day: Saturday
Date: 28th Feb 2009
Timing: 12.30pm – 4.00pm
Venue: Browsing Center, GIT.

But everything didn’t go as per to our plans.  There was an hacking contest organize in K.L.E.Engineering college, Belgaum and many wanted to attend it. So they requested that they will be attending on friday itself and we could not deny for that. Secondly the C.S.E. Department woke up after an semester to conduct an I.T. Quiz clashing with our workshop. They had taken registration entries in last semester and organizing this semester that too by announcing it on the previous day.

The students from I.S.E were totally not interested in attending it and all of them prefer to attend our workshop. ( Even I had registered for quiz last semester !) Most of the students had come early as we had said that entries will on first com first serve basis creating an mob outside the browsing center. Everything would have went fine if our H.O.D. would have not interfered in between. They had called up from C.S. Department saying we have told the students to attend the workshop mandatorily by bunking the I.T. Quiz (???????) Our H.O.D’s concern was genuine as he wanted to have an good relationship with the C.S. Department. So he asked us to cancel the workshop and send the student to I.T. quiz !

We had taken a lot of efforts from a week to organize the workshop and offcource how can we cancel it just like that? Prof. Kiran.K.T. was in support of  us. We anyhow managed to convince our H.O.D. Math Sir that we shall not allow the students who have enrolled for I.T. quiz (except me !) to attend workshop and send them to auditorium for I.T. quiz. We ensured I.T. quiz registrants  that we shall conduct the workshop on some other day for them. they agreed upon and went. It was an different matter that most of they went to home instead and those who went for I.T. quiz had missed the preliminary round and coud not participate in that too !

The workshop was finally started  with the words of Prof. Kiran K.T. He introduce us and then i took over.  I started with the presentation I had prepared. I have embedded the same copy here :

WordPress Installation Guide

As you can see it is an self explanatory power point presentation with live screen shots on how to install wordpress. It starts with the basic fundas like website, blog, wordpress, uses of blog, web hosting, domain etc. The actual part starts with signing up free web hosting account at www.FreeHostCell.com. Then comes an overview on hosting control panel and creating database in your free hosting account. The there is details on transferring files to the web server using FileZilla FTP client.  After that comes the actual step by step installation of wordpress. The presentation also contains slides on getting an free co.c domain name. It has links to various resource websites.

But due to problems with internet connection in the college we proceeded with the installation on localhost using WampServer. We explained everything live on the projector and simultaneously the participants did it on their computers. We explained all the menu in the backend i.e the control panel of wordpress. it was be creating post, editing it, changing permalinks, using tags and what not. We also gave an insight of generating wordpress themes using a wordpress theme generator. We also explained how to use plugins and widgets to enhance the functionalities of wordpress. The candidates also got to know how to use google analytics on wordpress and basic search engine optimization.

The worskhop went on for 3 hours and I don’t know how I managed to speak continuously not even drinking a drop of water ( I got to know about it only after Snehal told about it ) Finally we explained the judgement criteria’s for the wordpress blog contest and showed some popular blogs. Finally Prof. Rodd and Prof. Kiran concluded the workshop.

Thanks to Snehal, Sanket, Sohel and others who have helped a lot make it a grand success.

All the participants were very happy as the workshop was good, above their expectation ( and our expectation too !) Many of them commented that I’m best suited for lecture post ! Snehal was asking me how I spoke for 3 hours continuously in a loud pitch without a break ( and I got to know about it only after the workshop was over). I was totally in  a different world for those 3 hours. We remembered that we had forgotten to take snapshots of the event late but luckily we have a chance to get them in the next batch !

Now  I’m awaiting for the second batch to be organized tomorrow. So await for my next post i.e WordPress WorkShop – Part 2
